Thracian chariots are a type of ancient vehicle that are hard to find. When they are discovered, they usually have eight horses buried with them. The horses wear fancy decorations on their harnesses. The chariot has pictures on it made of bronze that show a creature from Thracian legends. This creature has a person’s body and a dolphin’s tail.
This discovery is special because of the very big wheels (1.2 meters, almost 4 feet) on the chariot. The burial site had the nobleman and his animals, as well as some wooden and leather things believed to be for horses.
The Thracians were great fighters, good at making horses and gold items. They helped the Trojans in a war against the Greeks, as told in an old story called the ‘Iliad’. They made a country that was strong in the fifth century BC but, in the first century, the Romans won it over. Later, in the 6th century, the Thracians became part of a group called the Slavs. Though they were very important, they didn’t have a way of writing things down, so there aren’t many old records about them. That’s why we learn about them today by looking at things they made or left behind, like a cool chariot found in Bulgaria.
