Flora’s broach is ready to be negotiated off this spring at Gildings Auctioneers in Market Harborough, Leics.

Flora Steel hitched the item about 35 years ago not knowing that it was a secret spot of the gem from the 19th Century.

After realising the piece looked like one that was present on Antiques Roadshow and later sold for €31,000, she got in touch with auctioneers.

She was given the stage when the experts noticed her broach was also an original by the great Victorian Gothic Revival designer and architect William Burges.

Burges, named as “the greatest genius of 19th-century design”, is prominent for creating Cardiff Castle and Castell Coch in South Wales.

The highly precious broach was bought at a Midlands antiques market in 1988.
